WELCOME
Welcome to the 2025 Honours Domestic Application Guide. Reading this guide is the first step to applying for a
One-Year Honours course at Flinders University.
Honours is a great way to investigate a study area of interest in further depth. It allows you to build on your
undergraduate studies, deepen your knowledge and expand your networks. It provides the opportunity to further
develop your research, writing and organisational skills and enables you to demonstrate your ability to undertake
higher-level study.
This guide will help you to determine your eligibility and understand the application process, including what
supporting documentation is required. Reading and understanding this guide forms part of the application
process.
Selection to One-Year Honours courses at Flinders University is usually based on a completed degree within a
related discipline with a GPA of 5.00 or above. The minimum GPA required may be higher depending on the
discipline. One Year Honours courses are not deferrable and are generally studied over one year full-time (or part-
time equivalent). You can find further information about the different Honours disciplines via
www.flinders.edu.au/study/apply/honours.
If, after reading this guide, you have any questions relating to the application process, please email
[email protected] for assistance.
Thank you for considering our One-Year Honours programs offered at Flinders University.
The information in this guide does not apply to the One-Year Honours in Psychology and applicants should refer
to the Psychology Honours application guide.
All prospective students are expected to act professionally toward the university, its staff, students and other applicants. Flinders University reserves the
right to consider any aspect of an applicant’s behaviour in the assessment of their suitability for admission.

ELIGIBILITY TO APPLY
Applicants must meet citizenship, English language proficiency and academic requirements to be eligible to
apply.
CITIZENSHIP REQUIREMENTS
Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, New Zealand citizens and Humanitarian Visa holders are
classified as domestic applicants. Applicants are required to meet domestic eligibility criteria at the time of
application.
Applicants who do not meet the domestic citizenship classification above are considered international
students and are not eligible to apply as domestic applicants. Please note that New Zealand permanent
residents are classified as international students.
International applicants are required to meet the international eligibility criteria at the time of application.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS
Flinders University conducts an English Language Proficiency Check (ELPC) for all its courses to confirm
applicants meet the minimum English language proficiency per it’s policy. Applicants who may not pass the
check will be contacted with further information.
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
Applicants are required to have completed or be in the final year of their Bachelor degree, either from an
Australian university or from another tertiary institution of equivalent standard at the time of application.
For applicants who have studied at a higher education level overseas, Flinders University will use the agreed
guidelines and assess their overseas qualifications to determine equivalence to a Bachelor’s degree level
study offered by Australian institutions.
Pre-assessment for equivalency is not possible. Applicants can have their overseas qualification assessed for
equivalency through https://internationaleducation.gov.au/.
ARRANGING SUPERVISION
Prior to applying for a One Year Honours course, applicants are required to consult with potential supervisors
and discuss possible thesis topics. Applicants are required to complete and submit a Project Proposal Form as
part of their application.
Science and Engineering applicants should refer to the Expression of Interest information for details about
supervision.
The Honours Coordinator can assist you with finding a supervisor. You can find a list of Honours Coordinators
and their details here. The Honours Coordinator allocates each student a supervisor by seeking to maximise
the match between student and supervisor preferences.
SCIENCE AND
ENGINEERING
EXPRESSION
OF
INTEREST
All Science and Engineering Honours applicants are required to undergo an expression of interest process as
part of their application, where they will nominate their preferred projects and supervisors, in addition to
submitting their online application for One Year Honours.
Expression of Interests are submitted at https://studentprojects.flinders.edu.au/find-a-project/.
Applications for Science and Engineering Honours courses cannot be processed unless an expression of
interest has been submitted.

Please note:
The University cannot guarantee a particular idea for a research project will be approved as an Honours thesis
topic, nor that a member of staff will agree to supervise a particular topic. This could be because some ideas
may be not appropriate for a thesis (e.g. idea might be too ambitious, require specialist skills, or be too
simple). Other projects might not be practical because they require ethical clearance from external agencies,
which can take a long time.
Although the majority of applicants usually receive their first choice of supervisor, this is not guaranteed,
each supervisor has a maximum number of Honours students they can supervise.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION
PROJECT PROPOSAL FORM
Applicants for courses other than Science and Engineering Honours are required to complete and submit a Project
Proposal Form as part of their application.
The form can be found on the One-Year Honours webpage. Applicants must obtain approval from their proposed
supervisor as part of the application process using this form.
All Science & Engineering Honours applicants are required to undergo an expression of interest process as part of
their application, nominating their preferred projects and supervisors, in addition to submitting their online
application for One Year Honours. Expression of Interests are submitted via the student projects page:
https://studentprojects.flinders.edu.au/find-a-project/.
OFFICIAL ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPTS
All applicants who are applying based on qualifications from institutions other than Flinders University, must provide
an electronic copy of their original or a certified copy of their original Official Academic Transcript or provide a My
eQuals link for all qualifications relevant to their application at the time of applying. This includes applicants with
current enrolment relevant to their application.
An electronic copy of an original or a certified copy of an original Official Academic Transcript must be uploaded to
the application as evidence they meet the academic requirement. Unofficial academic transcripts, statement of
results, exam slips, screen shots of grades, AHEGS etc. will not be accepted.
The official academic transcripts should show results in all subjects. A final academic transcript showing final grades
must also be uploaded to your application or forwarded to [email protected] once they have been
received. Please include a grading key (usually found on the back of the official transcript).
MY
eQUALS
If your Official Academic Transcript is available via My eQuals, you can provide the URL link to allow access to the
digital document in your application.
If you have set a PIN via my eQuals (this is optional) you will also need to supply this. You are asked not to set an
email address to access the link.
If you wish to set an expiry date for access to the digital document, please ensure the date selected is after July 2025
as the University may need to access the document up to and including this time.
For further information about providing Official Academic Transcripts via My eQuals visit
Page 9
www.myequals.edu.au/learners/. Please note, any subsequent updates to your Official Academic Transcript are not
automatically reflected on the link provided and you will be required to provide a new link for updated grades or
confirmation of completion to be considered.
Alternatively, you can share the document with Flinders University via the My eQuals platform.
Note: Official Academic Transcripts shared with Flinders University after the application deadline will NOT be
accepted.
Document authenticity through My eQuals
Some digital official academic transcripts specifically mention the University issuing the transcript will only guarantee
the document’s authenticity when it is accessed through the My eQuals portal. They further state that when viewed
online, the security of the document is only verified by the presence of the ‘Certified’ blue ribbon in the document.
Applicants who upload PDF documents from My eQuals that contain a blue ribbon stating ‘Certified by (University)...
all signatures are valid’ in the Signature Panel in the electronic document may be accepted. However, if a printed
copy of this document is uploaded to the application it will not be accepted as the electronic document normally
states ‘(University) cannot verify this document’s authenticity in printed format’.
TRANSCRIPTS IN A LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH
If academic transcripts are in a language other than English, applicants must submit copies of both the original
transcript and full translations in English. Translations must show results for all subjects undertaken and be certified
by an independent accredited translator (NAATI) and feature the translator's original stamp and signature on every
page. The translation must be a scan of the original hard copy translation document issued by the translator.
Electronic versions of the translation, where the translator's stamp has been affixed electronically, cannot be
accepted.
It is an applicant’s responsibility to comply with requests to provide further documentation, either in the original
language or English translation.
Note: Official Academic Transcripts submitted in the format specified by the institution as not being able to verify
the authenticity will NOT be accepted.
Applicants must upload all supporting documentation to their online application in one of the following file
formats: JPEG, DOC, DOCX, or PDF e.g. transcript.pdf.
Applicants must submit each academic transcript as a separate file.
Only clear legible scans will be accepted. The entire document must be included without any external
elements visible such as a table, shadows etc. We only accept scanned copies of original documents.
Upload of screenshots of system results, statements of results, academic records or unofficial transcripts etc.
will not be accepted.
