Driving Licenses in Thailand
Part 1: Driving Licenses issued under Section 43
of the Motor Vehicle Act B.E.2522 (1979)
1. Temporary Private Car/Motorcycle Driving License (valid for 2 years)

There are 2 types of the Private Car/Motorcycle Driving License:
2.1 Lifetime Private Driving License
The issuance of Lifetime license has been suspended since 2003; however, it is
still valid for those who obtained the license before 28 July 2003.

Part 2: Driving Licenses issued under Section 95
of the Land Transport Act B.E.2522 (1979)
1. Class 1
For driving motor vehicles used for carriage of goods having laden weight not exceeding
3,500 kg. or for carriage of passengers of 20 persons or less.
This type of license is valid for 3 years and is categorized into 2 categories:
1.1) Private Vehicle Driving License Class 1
This license is for driving private vehicle only.

1.2) Public Vehicle Driving License Class 1
This license is for driving both public and private vehicle.

2. Class 2
For driving motor vehicles used for carriage of goods having laden weight exceeding 3,500
kg. or for carriage of passengers more than 20 persons.
This type of license is valid for 3 years and is categorized into 2 categories:
2.1) Private Vehicle Driving License Class 2
This license is for driving private vehicle only.

This license is for driving both public and private vehicle.

3. Class 3
For driving motor vehicles which is, by nature, used for drawing other vehicles or any
wheeled car which carries its load.
This type of license is valid for 3 years and is categorized into 2 categories:
3.1) Private Vehicle Driving License Class 3
This license is for driving private vehicle only.

3.2) Public Vehicle Driving License Class 3
This license is for driving both public and private vehicle.

4. Class 4
For driving motor vehicle that transport dangerous goods.
This type of license is valid for 3 years and is categorized into 2 categories:
4.1) Private Vehicle Driving License Class 4
This license is for driving private vehicle only.
